The Society Captain's Day was hosted by Robbie Phillips at Hazel Grove Golf Club on Thursday 21st June, it did not look very much like mid summer with intermittent light rain falling throughout the afternoon.

A large field however enjoyed the day, including particularly the Scottish strawberry's and cream provided by Robbie's Wife at the halfway house.

The Captain, Peter Simcock, and President Mick Jones, of Hazel Grove played as a fourball with Robbie and Colin Shadbolt, the Society Vice Captain, they were later joined for dinner by David Billington the Hazel Grove Secretary.

Despite the poor weather some good scores resulted, The Captain's Prize was won by Joe Gaffey and Mike O'Brien from Swinton Park Golf Club with a fabulous score of 49 points.

Runners up were the "ever popular" regular prize winners from Turton Golf Club, Ian Wilbur and Brian Holt with 46 points.

Third place went to Alan Mottershead and Bill Leather of Heaton Moor, on a card play off with 44 points from Bert Thompson and John Dowd from Didsbury and Flixton.

Just outside the prizes were Colin Shadbolt/Mick Jones and John Gorton/David Wicks, with both pairs on 43 points.
