The 54th Annual Dinner of the Society of
Manchester and District Golf Captains on Tuesday 3rd November
proved to be a splendid occasion at the impressive setting
of The James Baird suite at Mere
Golf and Country Club, attended by 200 guests and Members.
Society Captain Irvine Caplan led his principal guests in
to the packed room to enjoy an excellent meal of Vegetable
Broth with savoury dumplings, pan fried breast of chicken
with honey roasted vegetables and crisp Anna potatoes followed
by Apple Strudel with crème Anglais, finishing off
with mature Cheshire Cheese.
The toast to the Society was proposed by Colin Brown the
Captain of the R and A who gave an insight into his hectic
schedule, arriving back from China on Monday then flying
from Glasgow to Manchester on Tuesday morning.
The Captain Irvine Caplan responded on behalf of the Society
and also thanked all of those who had worked so hard behind
the scenes during his most enjoyable year of office.
The
toast to the guests was proposed in excellent style by society
President Dennis Babbs and the evening was brought to a
fitting close by Jed
Stone, who captivated the audience with some great stories
involving many of the guests and a prodigious succession
of jokes.
Our thanks to Geoff
Garnett for allowing us to use his official photographs.
