A field of 84 enjoyed the traditional opening
day of the Manchester Captains Society season at Davenport
Golf Club.
Our thanks go to Davenport G C for hosting this event for
us, the course was set up in magnificent condition and the
greens, in the opinion of many of the members, were the
best they had played on.
Making the most of the blustery conditions were winning
pair Harry Funge & John Whelan both from Bramhall G
C who scored a fine haul of 40 points to take the top prizes
in the Founders’ Day competition. Runners up on 38
points after a 5 way card play off were Mike Hinde &
Mike Rhodes both from Styal G C.
Congratulations also go to Gordon Desser of Whitefield G
C, guest of the new Captain, who recorded his first Hole
in One. It is also appears to be the first Hole in One recorded
in the Society Competitions.
The day was also the traditional start of the reign of the
new officials of The Society with Irvine Caplan from Whitefield
G C becoming the new society Captain, taking over from Colin
Shadbolt of Bramall Park G C
Joining Irvine in the top office is Dennis Babbs of Rochdale
G C who has become the new society President and Alan Preston
from Cheadle G C was appointed as the new Vice Captain.
