The Inaugural Match against the Society of
Leeds Golf Captains was held at the Withington Golf Club
who very generously hosted this first match against the
Leeds Captains for us.
On
a gloriously hot & sunny day the Match was played on
the magnificent Withington course which was presented in
superb condition – the Wars of the Roses was occasionally
mentioned but never the less the Match was played in the
true spirit of golf and enjoyed by all.
After
an excellent dinner of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding
the Captain of Withington G. C. Bob King welcomed all the
members of both Societies to Withington G.C.
Irvine Caplan SMDGC Captain welcomed the Leeds Golf Captains
to this the first meeting between the two Societies and
hoped that it was the first of many to come. He thanked
Withington Golf Club for granting us courtesy of the course
and for making us so welcome and presented a plaque to their
Captain Bob King to commemorate our visit.
The Captain of Leeds Society David Hartass responded and
again reiterated that he hoped that it was the start of
many matches between the two Societies.
We all enjoyed a wonderful day with our friends from the
Leeds Golf Captains Society, the result was an “Honourable
Draw” just in favour of the White Rose. We look forward
to meeting with them again next year in Yorkshire on Wednesday
16th June at Normanton G C.
