The Society of Manchester & District
Golf Captains hosted the annual match against The Society
of Liverpool Captains for the Norman Stewart Shield at Swinton
Park Golf Club Golf Club on Tuesday 7th July.
Unfortunately the sun did not shine on us. Heavy overnight
rain had flooded the course, but thanks to the sterling
efforts of the ground staff the course was ready for play
for the 1.00pm start, our sincere thanks go to the ground
staff.
A field of 116 enjoyed a wonderful day of golf between the
showers and the thunder storms on a wonderful course that
was presented in an excellent condition in spite of the
weather.
The Competition for the Norman Stewart Shield was won by
Liverpool 18 - 11 making the overall score since 1956 when
the Competition was first played :-
Liverpool 25 wins Manchester 23 wins with 6 matches drawn.
Our thanks go to The Captain and Council of Swinton Park
Golf Club for hosting this annual event for us and for the
way that we were made to feel welcome throughout the day.
We look forward to renewing old friendships with our Liverpool
colleagues next year at a Course of their choosing.
