The Annual Match for the “Harken Trophy”
against the Bolton & District Society of Golf Captains
was held at Deane Golf Club on Monday 19th July 2010. The
weather started off hot and sunny but very soon turned into
the normal wet weather we seem to attract for this Match.
However all teams managed to complete and have an enjoyable
days golf.
The
Bolton Society Captain Tony Sutton welcomed the Manchester
Captains and expressed his thanks to his playing partners
for an excellent game. He thanked the officials of Deane
Golf Club for allowing us the use of their facilities and
preparing and presenting the course in an excellent condition.
Alan
Preston, Captain of Manchester thanked the Bolton Captains
for their generous hospitality and also reiterated thanks
to Deane Golf Club. The Captain was delighted to announce
that after a very close fought Match, Manchester, for the
first time ever were the Winners of the Harken Trophy. The
result being 71/2 to 51/2 in favour of Manchester.
The
evening was brought to a close by the Captain of Deane Golf
Club, Brian Evans, who said he was delighted to welcome
the two Societies to play at Deane Golf Club.
We
look forward to playing against our friends from Bolton
again next year and hopefully we can retain the Harken Trophy
for the first time!
