The 55th Annual Dinner of the Society of
Manchester and District Golf Captains on Tuesday 2nd November
proved to be a splendid occasion at the impressive setting
of The James Baird suite at Mere
Golf and Country Club, attended by 186 guests and Members.
Society
Captain Alan Preston led his principal guests in to the
packed room to enjoy an excellent meal of Roasted Tomato
& Red Pepper Soup, Braised Lamb Shank with Fresh Herb
Mash and Roasted vegetables followed by Apple and Sultana
Crumble Tartlet with Vanilla Sauce, finishing off with Platter
of British Cheese and Home Made Chutney.
The
toast to the Society was proposed by Air Chief Marshal Sir
Patrick Hine GCB GCE the Captain of the R and A who gave
an insight into his golfing prowess and the workings of
the R & A.
The
Captain Alan Preston responded on behalf of the Society
and also thanked all of those who had worked so hard behind
the scenes during his most enjoyable year of office.
The toast to the guests was proposed in excellent style
by society President Bill Elliott and the evening was brought
to a fitting close by Charlie
Hale, who captivated the audience with some great stories
involving many of the guests and a prodigious succession
of jokes based on celebrities nominated by the audience.
