The Annual match against the Society of Leeds
Golf Captains was held at the Manchester Golf Club who very generously
hosted the match against the Leeds Captains for us.
On a gloriously hot & sunny day, marred only at the end by
a heavy shower, the Match was played on the magnificent Manchester
course which was presented in superb condition – the Wars
of the Roses was occasionally mentioned but never the less the
Match was played in the true spirit of golf and enjoyed by all.
After an excellent dinner of the Captain of Manchester G. C. Keith
Hough welcomed all the members of both Societies to Manchester
G.C.
David
Besant Roberts SMDGC Captain welcomed the Leeds Golf Captains
and hoped that it in future “his men” would put up
sterner opposition. He thanked Manchester Golf Club for granting
us courtesy of the course and for making us so welcome and presented
a plaque to their Captain Keith Hough to commemorate our visit.
The
Captain of Leeds Society Mike Snee responded and again reiterated
that he hoped that it was one of many matches between the two
Societies. He announced the result as an “Honourable Draw”
slightly in favour of Leeds even though we could only mange to
win one game!
We
all enjoyed a wonderful day with our friends from the Leeds Golf
Captains Society. We look forward to meeting with them again next
year in Yorkshire.
