In the final home match of the season Manchester
Captains took on their Chester counterparts at Leigh Golf Club.
Leigh Captain Simon Mulvey welcomed the players during lunch following
which the teams were announced. Play began in warm overcast conditions
that led to sunshine as the day progressed. The course was presented
in good condition with lush fairways and receptive greens in contrast
to many courses played this arid summer.
Following dinner Simon thanked the members of both teams for coming
to Leigh and hoped that they had enjoyed their day. Manchester
Captain Tony Gregory thanked the club for hosting together with
those responsible for arranging the day then led the Manchester
players in a toast to their opponents, while looking forward to
more days in such good company.
Responding, Chester Captain Jim Cleland expressed his appreciation
for a fine course and for the hospitality received. He then had
the distinction of announcing only the second win for Manchester
this summer by 6 matches to 2.
Bernard Stone expressed his appreciation to everyone concerned
in helping him and the Chester organiser David Hopkins to put
together a most enjoyable day.
