The 56th Annual Dinner of the Society of
Manchester and District Golf Captains on Tuesday 4th November
proved to be a splendid occasion at the absolutely fabulous
setting of Mere Golf and Country Club.
Society
Captain Colin Shadbolt led his principal guests in to the
packed room to enjoy a wonderful feast of the Captain’s
favourites – Pork and Lancashire cheeses.
The toast to the Society was proposed by Hamish Ritchie
the Captain of the R and A who gave an insight into his
drive-in to office, complete with Cannon at St Andrews a
few weeks previously.
The Captain Colin Shadbolt responded with a complete reference
to ALL the honoured guests present and also thanked all
of those who had worked so hard behind the scenes during
his most enjoyable year of office.
Special mention was made of David Horsey, the first player
from Cheshire to play in The Walker Cup and also winner
of The European Challenge Tour in his first year as a Pro.
The toast to the guests was proposed in excellent style
by society President Jack Bishop and the evening was brought
to a fitting close by Andrew Barr, Lancashire Union Executive
with some great stories and jokes.
Succeeding Colin and Jack in to office in 2009 will be Irvine
Caplan of Whitefield and Dennis Babbs of Rochdale, we wish
them well in their year in office.
