The
Northumberland Captains were entertained over two days at
Mere Golf & Country Club on the Wednesday and Dunham
Forrest Golf & Country Club on the Thursday.
The Northumberland Captains came down from a very wet and
flooded North East to a sunny dry Manchester - the weather
over the two days was warm and sunny!
Mere Golf & Country Club was a wonderful setting for
this occasion and the course was presented in an immaculate
condition and great credit goes to the ground staff for
their efforts.
Play
began at 1.30 pm and by 6.30 the Manchester Captains were
licking their wounds after a whitewash! Well done Northumberland
Captains.
In
spite of this we still entertained the Northumberland Captains
to Dinner at night. Again Mere Golf & Country Club provided
an excellent setting and our thanks go to the management
and staff for making this such a memorable occasion.
On
Thursday we moved to Dunham Forrest Golf & Country Club
where again we were made most welcome. The course was presented
in excellent condition and our thanks go to the ground staff
who had coped with very severe weather conditions prior
to the event. Our sincere thanks go to the Captain, Bethel
Rosenburg and the Council of Dunham Forrest Golf & Country
Club for hosting the event.
At
last Manchester regained some credence by winning the second
day 4 games to 2, giving the overall result some respectability
– 8 games to 4 in favour of Northumberland
Colin
Shadbolt the Manchester Captain presented the Jack Spedding
Trophy to the winning Northumberland Captain George Howorth.
Congratulations
Northumberland. We look forward to meeting again next year
at Gosforth and Morpeth.
