The occasion marked the end of some sterling service to the Match and Competition Committee Chairman Colin Shadbolt of Bramall Park Golf Club who will be the society Captain in 2008.

Colin said: “I would like to thank all who played in the 2007 fixtures and that despite the poor weather which we generally experienced members enjoyed the events, venues and dinners we have shared together.

“We very much appreciate the support of the Clubs which we have visited throughout the year, in every case the reception and co-operation which we received was exceptional.

“Our annual match with the Liverpool Captains at Chorlton was a narrow loss by 15.5 - 13.5 and this was disappointing as a win would have levelled the series over 50+ years of history of the event.

“We enjoyed a full season of matches with our colleagues from neighbouring Captains’ Societies, again the results we obtained were mixed, but I am sure that we will spend the winter improving our game to ensure better results in 2008.

“My particular thanks go to Mike Rhodes and Irvine Caplan together with our starters John Milner and Donald McDonald for all their efforts during the year.

“As I retire following a few years at the ‘Competitions’ Helm’ I would like to say how much I have appreciated the support and encouragement of all of our members and I am sure that I leave the Committee in very capable hands.”
